The Lakeside School
2018 Upper School First Semester Exams

Exams will begin on Friday, December 14th and run through Tuesday, December 18th.  Students should report to homeroom at 8:00 a.m.  The first exam will run from 8:15-10:15 and the second exam will run from 10:30-12:30. There will be a break for all upper school students from 10:15-10:30 each day. After the second exam, students are allowed to leave for the day.  School dress code does apply to exam days.

Please note that lunch WILL NOT be served for Upper School students December 14-18. Snacks will be available for purchase in-between the 2 exams.

Students will be required to remain in their classroom throughout the first exam period (8:15-10:15) as not to disturb other students taking exams. Please make every accommodation for your student not to be on campus unless they have an exam. Those students who must be on campus but do not have an exam or transportation will report to the gym to be supervised.

Students who are late for a nine weeks test or semester exam have only the remaining time to complete the exam unless there are extenuating circumstances.

-     School will be closed Wednesday-Friday, November 21st-23rd for Thanksgiving Holidays!
  • -     -Attached is information about reserved seating for basketball games.  Get your reserved seats today!
  • -     Middle School students need to pay their $40 by Tuesday, November 19th for the Alabama Shakespeare field trip.
  • -     The Preschool is selling poinsettia’s and an order form is attached.  The poinsettias we sell are shipped to us from Young’s Plant Farm in Auburn and are beautiful, quality plants.  **We would like to have our poinsettia count finalized by Monday, November 19th. Our poinsettias will be delivered the week after Thanksgiving. You may pick them up in the library (located in the upper school) Wednesday, November 28th through Friday, November 30th**If there are larger orders (10+) going to one location we will happily deliver them.

    JV and Varsity softball tryouts will be tomorrow on Field 7 at Old Creektown Park.  If your daughter is interested in trying out, please remind them to sign up on the girl’s locker room door.  There will also be tryouts on November 28th for those unable to make the 17th tryout.  Time has not yet been determined.

Basketball Reserved Seating / Season Passes

Basketball season is fast approaching! The CHIEFS will play their first home game on November 27 and we are offering season passes and reserved seating passes so you can enjoy all nine (9) of our home games this season. Make sure to get your passes soon…as reserved seating is limited to the top seats only.

SEASON PASS - $63 – Includes admission to all home regular season games (does not include admission to the Shoemaker / Bradford Holiday Tournament).
RESERVED SEATING - $85 – Includes a reserved seat along the top row of bleachers to all home regular season games (does not include admission to the Shoemaker / Bradford Holiday Tournament). Reserved seats are assigned on a first come, first served basis.

  • -     Tonight, our Varsity football players and cheerleaders travels to South Choctaw and play at 7:00pm.  We still have tickets in the office for $7.00.  Also, if you are not able to go, you can watch the game online.  Go to www.choctawsun.org and click on SUNTV Broadcasts.  You will be able to see the game and cheer on our Chiefs!

-     Tonight, Varsity football hosts Pike Lib at 7:00pm.  Senior Recognition is at 6:30pm.  Come out and support our Chiefs!
-     SGA is participating in a relief effort to send essential supplies to Florida’s victims of Hurricane Michael.  They are due on Wednesday, October 31st
-     JV and Varsity softball tryouts will be on November 17th on Field 7 at Old Creektown Park.  If your daughter is interested in trying out, please remind them to sign up on the sheets posted on the girl’s locker room.
-     The Lakeside Chiefs will play South Choctaw Academy on Friday, November 2 at 7:00pm. It is a 4+ hour drive to the Mississippi state line and the bus would leave the school around 1:30pm. Students and parents are welcome to ride the 56 passenger bus. If your 7th-12th grader would like to travel to the game, we need you to contact the school by email or call Denise Corcoran in the office at 687-5748. If you and your younger child/children would like to ride the bus, parents are welcome to bring them along. The cost is $38.00 for EACH person. We must confirm the bus ASAP! Please come sign up in the office with Denise Corcoran as soon as possible!  When you sign up and pay, your money if non-refundable.  We also have tickets for the game in the office and they are $7.00 for everyone.  Please purchase them from us so our school will receive the money.

      This weekend is our 50th year Celebration.  We will have the following activities:
Tonight @ 5:30pm:  Tailgating in the courtyard.
Tonight @ 7:00pm:  Chiefs vs Springwood
Tomorrow @ 7:30am - Check in for golf tournament at the Eufaula Country Club
Tomorrow @ 8:30am - Shotgun start for golf tournament
The golf tournament is $200 per team. It is a 2 man scramble. Please contact Ben Garrison if you or your spouse are interested in playing!
Tomorrow @ 7:00pm - Party at the Eufaula Country Club. There are no “tickets” or admission costs to the party. We will provide food, and there will be a cash bar. The DJ will play from 7pm-11pm and we will  have other entertainment!
  • Thursday, October 25th is our Fall Festival.  If you volunteer to help your child’s class, you can earn parent volunteer hours.  We need baked goods for our cake walk.  Please bring these to the main office by 1:00pm on Thursday.  A flyer is attached with more information and an entry form.
  • Make up school pictures will be on Monday.
  • Don’t forget to pick up your Cash Giveaway tickets from Amy in the main office.  Tickets and money are due on Monday.

Over the course of the summer, students must read two books from the grade appropriate list provided below. Each class will have an assigned book that students are required to read and be tested on the third day of school. This test will be an in class essay. This in class essay will allow me to get an early look at the student’s writing as well as determine the depth of knowledge from the required reading. The required book is marked with an asterisk under each grade level. On that same day a major works data sheet is due on the second book they have read. This document is included here. There will be absolutely no extensions granted for currently enrolled students.

-Attached is the PTO volunteer opportunities form for next school year. Serving as a PTO volunteer is a great way to fulfill the required parent volunteer hours. If you are interested in any of these positions, please print it and return it to the main office.

-If you still need parent volunteer hours, we are having 2 campus cleanup days.  They are on Saturday, May 5th from 7am-11am and Sunday, May 6th from 2pm-4pm.

-May 1st is the presentation of honor graduates and cap and gown pictures for the senior class.

-Senior parents – all tuition, fees and dues must be paid by May 10th to the business office.  All parent volunteer hours must be completed by May 7th.

-Monday, April 30th is the last day your child can charge in the lunchroom.

-It is time to reserve your spot at our Spring Sports banquet for JV and Varsity basketball, baseball, softball, tennis, fishing and golf.  The banquet will be on May 15th at 6:00pm at Lakepoint.  Tickets are $14.00 a person and players and coaches are free.  Attached is a reservation form for you to fill out and turn in with your money to the main office.  The deadline to turn in your reservation is Tuesday, May 8th.

Lakeside News
Please check our website for all our athletic events.  We have posted baseball, softball, golf and tennis schedules on the school website.

-The Book Fair will be March 15th-21st in the library.  The book fair will be open from 7:45am-4:00pm.

-Encore has been so gracious to do physicals for us this year.  Forms will be given to your student on Monday, March 19th and all paperwork must be filled out completely and turned in to either Coach Tom or Mrs. Sherri in the office by Thursday, March 22nd with a $15.00 check made payable to Encore. The physicals will be on Wednesday, April 4th starting at 5:00pm. (There will be no pre-physicals this year) Please keep in mind, if your child is playing football, cheerleading, basketball, baseball, softball, tennis, golf, volleyball, etc. (this includes PeeWee, JV and Varsity) they are required to have their physical completed on April 4th.  No one can participate in school sports without a current physical on file with the school.

-Bunny Grams will be on sale next week, and they are $2 each. Forms were given to your students today. We are also attaching a form for your convenience. This is a perfect gift for Big Chief and/or Little Chiefs. The deadline to purchase is Wednesday afternoon. The Bunny Grams will be delivered the Friday before Spring Break. Thanks for supporting the Junior class! Please contact Mrs. Callie Strickland if you have any questions.

-Spring Break is March 26th – April 2nd.  Enjoy your time with your family.

-April 6th we will dismiss at noon because of the Pilgrimage.

-On April 3rd, all Juniors and a few seniors and sophomores’ will be taking the ACT at the Senior center.  This test will be administered by the school and your student needs to be there by 7:45am.

--Tuesday, January 23rd will be Senior Recognition for our basketball teams at 5:30pm.  We will also recognize our fishing team for their 2015 and 2017 State Championships.  Banners will be displayed in the gym recognizing their achievement.

-We have rescheduled Honors Day to Wednesday, January 24th in the gym.  Elementary will be at 1:00pm and Middle and Upper school will be at 2:00pm.

-Dine To Donate, Monday, January 15th at El Jalisco from 5pm-8pm.

-Monday, January 15th is a school holiday – school will be closed.

-Report cards are due on Tuesday, January 16th.  These need to be given to your student’s homeroom teacher.

-Midyear Honors Day is Thursday, January 18th in the gym.  Elementary will be at 1:00pm and Middle and Upper School will be at 2:00pm.
