Dress Code
2019-2020

In order to establish and maintain a clean, safe environment that is academically focused, The Lakeside School will not permit any student to wear any article of clothing that is distracting, overly suggestive, or so extreme or inappropriate to the school setting that it disrupts the educational process.  Overseeing of dress is a parental responsibility and Lakeside expects decisions about dress to reflect the high standards of Lakeside parents and students.  There are times when special events may warrant special attire. Teachers, administrators and coaches may direct student’s regarding what to wear for special events. Parents are expected to cooperate with the school in the observance of the following guidelines:

Grades K-5th:  School uniforms are required for elementary grades.  Uniform guidelines are as follows:
·       Students wear uniforms Monday through Thursday.
·       Shirts are to be tucked in and brown/black belt worn if bottoms have belt loops.  Kindergarten and 1st grade are exempt from the belt requirement.
·       Lands’ End is the exclusive vendor for logo items and school plaid items. All polo style and oxford shirts must have the crest logo.
·       Parents may use any source for khaki bottoms (pants, shorts, capris, skorts, etc.) with no cargo or fishing net style bottoms. No khaki jumpers at this time.
·       Bottom of shorts, skorts and jumpers shall be no shorter than 3 inches above the knee.
·       Colors for girls’ tights or leggings are black, white or gray.
·       Student’s wear tennis shoes with either black, white or gray socks.
·       With winter weather, cool weather outerwear (light jacket) is to be the blue fleece from Lands’ End with LSC or crest logo OR gray cardigan for girls. For more extreme winter outerwear, students may wear heavy coat of their choice.
·       Note: Navy blue items will not be part of the uniform beginning with the 2019-2020 academic year.
·       Items purchased from other vendors must mirror the item styles available from Lands’ End in order to keep the look of the uniforms consistent.

Friday attire will be student choice in compliance with the school dress code as follows:
Students are to be dressed in age-appropriate attire.  Students may not wear camouflage shirts, pants, shorts or shoes.  No athletic shorts or sweat pants are allowed, unless these items are part of a team uniform for an event that day.  If leggings are worn, the top must be no more than 3 inches above the top of the knee.  The length of shorts/skorts must reach the end of the child’s fingertips when arms are straight by the side.

Grades 6th-9th:  School Uniforms are required for grades 6th -9th grades. Uniform guidelines are as follows:
·       Students wear uniforms Monday – Thursday.
·       Boys wear non-cargo/non-fishing net style khaki pants or shorts with polo style shirts or Land’s End t-shirts or button down shirts.
o   Polo and t-shirt color options will be white, royal blue, black, or light (heather) gray.
o   Button down shirt color options will be white or Lands’ End French blue.
o   Students may wear long or short sleeves in any of these shirt styles.
o   All shirts and sweatshirts must have the Lakeside logo – either Lakeside crest or LSC.
o   Thread colors for the LSC logo will be white on blue and black shirts and blue on gray and white shirts.
·       Girls wear khaki skirts or skorts; khaki, white, or black pants/jeggings; or Lands’ End plaid skirts with polo style shirts or Lands’ End t-shirts or button down shirts.
o   Polo and t-shirt color options will be white, royal blue, black, or light (heather) gray.
o   Button down shirt color options will be white or Lands’ End French blue.
o   Students may wear long or short sleeves in any of these shirt styles.
o   All shirts and sweatshirts must have the Lakeside logo – either Lakeside crest or LSC.
o   Thread colors for the LSC logo will be white on blue and black shirts and blue on gray and white shirts.
·       Students wear royal blue, black, or light gray jackets of their choice for cold days.  For extreme cold, students may wear heavier outer wear with no color restrictions; however, camo is not allowed unless it is for a school dress-up/theme day.
·       Students wear shoes of their choice.
·       The Lakeside School has contracted with Lands’ End to provide custom uniform options; however, most items for middle school students may be purchased from any vendor.  Lands’ End is the exclusive vendor for uniform t shirts and plaid skirts.  Items purchased from other vendors must mirror the item styles available from Lands’ End to keep the look of the uniforms consistent.  The logos must also mirror the LSC and crest logos established by Lands’ End.

Grades 10th-12th:  School uniforms are optional for grades 10th-12th for the 2019-2020 school year.  Upper school students choosing to wear uniforms should follow the guidelines for middle school uniform attire.  Mandatory upper school uniform implementation will begin with the ninth grade in the 2019-2020 school year and progress with one grade each year thereafter until full implementation is complete.  The school faculty, staff and administration reserve the right to determine what is appropriate dress or accessory while students are in school.  A student who wears inappropriate clothing must call his/her parents for a proper change of clothes.  Parents must bring the change of clothes; students will not be permitted to leave campus.

Appropriate Dress for Grades 10th-12th:
  • Shoes must be worn at all times.
  • The required length of shorts, skirts or dresses is no more than 3 inches above the top of the knee.
